Another satisfied PSA Systems' customer! Dorman Products, based in Sanford, NC, worked with PSA to design their first robotic work cell to store and catalogue remanufactured battery fuel cells for the hybrid-electric car industry. PSA utilized ABB's IRB 4600 with a custom end-of-arm tool to pick battery cells from a custom infeed conveyor and place in the fuel cell “library”. The robot would then pick the appropriate fuel cells from the “library” and deliver them to an assembly operator to build out the newly remanufactured battery pack. The robot programming was completed using ABB's RobotStudio Virtual Programming Software, which significantly decreased commissioning and de-bug times.
